Description of tensions and questions to be explored

A Cineforum is a collaboration hub that blends cutting edge climate science with culture (film, photography, art) and creative learning techniques to promote marginalised and minority perspectives and create strategies and solutions to combat climate change. We are inviting presenters from both the mainstream and from lesser known sections of society, from the edge, as it were: mavericks and marginalised voices, including voices from ethnic minority communities and from developing countries that are dealing with the front line of climate change. Women in general must occupy a greater role within all communities.

We want to create a space where we start to implement the paradigm shifts we are talking about. So in this case, we are creating communities of action. Within these communities of action, we require climate experts to share their knowledge and communications experts to help disseminate this knowledge. We are not averse to leaders who can effectively combine charisma, influence and expertise and we welcome them too. In addition to this type of leading, all citizens must be prepared to take leadership roles, create impetus and catalyse others.

We need to start engaging the voices from the edges of society, be they minorities, marginalised or mavericks. It is this diversity in knowledge, insights and experiences that drives society forwards and enables innovation, enterprise, and change to flourish. Who should we be listening to in this time of great need? What is the value of community in a fragmented and globalised world? How can we engage and catalyse those who are as yet unaware of the scale of the issues we face? How do we engage those resistant to the reality of the issues we face? And once engaged, how do we embed the value of communities in action in a globalised and fractured world?
